We want to give you
a practical product in genuine, high-quality leather.
By virtue of this principle, and thanks to our decades of experience in tanning, the only possible solution was to use vegetable-tanned leather.
We chose vegetable tanning because we believe that the best way to experience the product is by seeing it with your eyes, touching it with your hands, and honouring it with our memory.
Vegetable tanning is simply the oldest and most natural way of tanning animal hides and it has been in use since prehistoric times because it employs materials found in nature.
From the first men to the Tuscan master craftsmen, Vegetable-Tanned Leather has always been treated with the same substance found in trees: tannin which makes the leather soft, malleable and resistant over time.
It is no coincidence that Tuscany is the mother and the founder of a tradition that has its roots in the 1300s. A natural cradle made of forests, vast green valleys, plenty of water that, thanks to the farmers’ ability to put them to good use, have given tanners all they needed to become excellent masters of vegetable-tanned leather.
Vegetable tanning is an ancient art that started spontaneously in the Middle Ages in the expert hands of Tuscan masters who were able to redefine the concept of tanning and give the leather a unique and unchanging lustre.
The development of vegetable-tanned leather underwent a revolution in the 1700s, thanks to the regent of the Grand Duchy Lorena di Toscana who extended trade on a large scale.
By promoting new business practices, they could guarantee unprecedented growth in the processing centres of Florence and Pisa.
Here and for the first time, the leather was also used for clothing, such as soles, gloves and shoes. This huge boost actually created alongside it the all-Italian school of craftsmen that is envied and loved around the world.
Vegetable tanning is the history of man, an integral part of its evolution in the way of living up to the present day. A deep and unbreakable bond over time.
And that has its birthplace in Italy, where tradition and culture have brought man to new existential peaks.
The title "both an ancient and modern processing method"
refers to the foundations upon which the tanning process is still based today, namely: tannins, lime and water.
Here is how it works
Just think that the housing for riding, in other words saddles and reins, are only made from vegetable-tanned leather, thanks to the great strength of the leather that has been treated this way.
This is what it means when we say that you are buying something truly unique:
You know that by doing this you have become a witness and owner of a bit of history that has continued since the dawn of humanity.
